I was never offered military protection as Speaker of Parliament – Mike Ocquaye
In a statement signed by Maj. Gen. NP Andoh, the recalled military personnel did not go through the proper processes before being assigned to the spokesman’s office.
The soldiers’ names are WO1 Jafaru Bunwura, WOII Apugiba Awine David, S/Sgt Agbley Prosper and Sgt Bonney Prinz.
“It is humbly requested that staff be withdrawn effective January 14, 2022 while efforts are made to regulate their attachment,” the letter to Bagbin said.
Professor Mike Ocquaye’s name has been mentioned in the media that he has been granted military protection.
But the former speaker of the parliament denied the report.
In a statement, he said: “My attention was drawn to a media report that I, Prof. Aaron Michael Oquaye, received military protection during my tenure as Speaker of the 7th Parliament of the 4th Republic.
“I want to state categorically that this is patently wrong. I have never been offered military protection, nor have I asked for it. I only had three police officers who escorted me and provided security at all essential times.
“This information can be easily checked at any time by anyone dealing with the truth in the Parliament Secretary’s office.
“I will pray for my name to be left out of this media discourse on military protection and urge all discerning Ghanaians to ignore any misleading reporting of it.”
