Here’s how to get rid of annoying Instagram ads
Since Instagram introduced advertising and a non-chronological feed, there has been no shortage of paid posts in users’ feeds. These days, scrolling through your feed feels like driving past multiple billboards or watching cable TV on a freeway.
So, if you’re tired of scrolling past annoying ads on Instagram, read on. This article will give you detailed step-by-step guides on how to reduce and remove Instagram ads.
This is how Instagram ads work
It’s not uncommon to rack your brains after following the brands trying to sell you products only to find that you see a paid ad instead of a regular post.
Instagram ads work by tracking your activity on the app. The more you interact with a brand’s content by liking or commenting on their posts, the more likely you will be targeted by ads from that brand.
But that’s not the only way to find these ads. Instagram also tracks your activity on other websites owned by Facebook and even third party websites.
MAKEUSEO VIDEO OF THE DAY
Have you ever browsed for Nike sneakers with Google, only to be bombarded with sneaker advertising on Facebook and Instagram? It seems strange and can scare you, but this is how Facebook targets you with relevant ads across all apps.
Facebook does this through its retargeting service Facebook Exchange, which allows advertisers to track your browsing habits online so they can show you more relevant ads. Additionally, you might see the same sponsored ads multiple times, making them obtrusive and repetitive – which can potentially ruin your in-app experience.
How to Identify Instagram Ads

Instagram ads will appear in your main feed and stories with the label Sponsored at the top of the post, under the brand name. They also include an action button at the bottom. A sponsored post can be an image or video and prompts you to take action based on the company’s goal for the ad.
Here are some of the actions you might be prompted to take:
- Install now for app-related ads.
- Download to download what is advertised.
- Sign up to register on a site.
- Shopping now to buy the advertised product.
- Learn more to get more information about the advertised product or service.

If you find a particular ad annoying or repetitive, it’s easy to hide it.
To hide an ad on Instagram, just follow these steps:
If you go through your feed and come across a sponsored post that you don’t like, tap that Three point menu in the top right corner of the post.
Tap Hide the ad.
On demand Why are you hiding this ad?, select the most appropriate option from the list that appears. This is to help Instagram better control your ad experience in the app in the future.
Marking it as inappropriate or irrelevant will reduce the chances of the ad appearing again in your feed because you will be seen as the wrong audience for the ad. Choosing any other option may simply decrease the number of times you see it.
If you want the ad removed from Instagram due to some violation of community standards or false advertising, then you should use the second method …
Method 2: report ads on Instagram

Tap the Three point menu in the top right corner of the post.
Tap Report the ad.
Under Why are you reporting this ad?, select the reason you were reporting this ad from the list that appears.
However, be careful not to misreport ads unless they break rules or mislead users.
Method 3: Block Brand Accounts
The last option to remove Instagram ads is to block the sender’s account. Here’s how:
Tap the Company or brand name above in the sponsored post. This leads you to his profile.
Tap the Three point menu in the upper right corner of the profile.
You will be presented with two options: whether you want to block just the specific profile or if you want to block all other profiles that the company may create in the future. Choose the first option and tap block.
Of course, this will only remove the ads on one page and you’ll have to repeat this for every other advertising account that you don’t want to see ads from.
This works well when there is a certain advertiser that you never want to hear from and that you don’t want to follow on Instagram.
