What are social media platforms doing to filter hate speech and misinformation?

Facebook defines hate speech as any content that directly attacks people based on “protected characteristics, including race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender, gender identity, or severe disability or illness”.

“Direct attacks” include any kind of violent or inhumane speech, harmful stereotypes, declarations of inferiority, disgust or rejection, expressions of contempt, swear words and calls for exclusion or demarcation, as explained in detail in the Facebook transparency center.
