“Social media platforms where there is no control or self-regulation have now become a threat to democracy, social peace and national security of states,” he said in a video message to the Turkic Council media forum.

“We cannot trust the conscience and professional ethics of those who continually teach us lessons on human rights, democracy and freedom from an orientalist perspective,” he said.

He stated that millions of “defenseless” people around the world are depressed and suffering severe trauma from false and distorted news.

“Just as we do not depend exclusively on foreigners in the arms industry and military affairs, we cannot leave the communication issue to others,” said Erdoğan.

Like other strategic issues, they have to take media and communication matters into their own hands, the president said.

He called on the Turkish world and the relevant countries to take the initiative in this regard, to exchange experiences, to join forces and to look for ways to use the opportunities most effectively.

Erdoğan emphasized that no country and no society – whether developed or not – is free from the “devastating effects of digital fascism”.

He expressed the hope that the three-day media forum hosted by the Turkish Directorate of Communication will help strengthen solidarity between countries.

Erdoğan said that the Turkish world was also suffering from the “double standards” of the international media.

“Especially the hypocritical attitude we have during the [second] The 44-day Karabakh War showed how important the issue is for our countries, ”he said.

“The massacre and ballistic missile attacks by the Armenian army on civilians” [in Azerbaijan] were never brought up during this time. In terms of the independence and objectivity of the media, the international media acted as the official news agency for Armenia, ”he criticized.

He stressed that the last Karabakh war was “neither the first nor the last example of a press embargo” against the facts about the countries of the Turkish world.
