Facebook’s ban on foreign political advertising means the website is language-separated
The broader problem arises from Facebook’s definition of political advertising – a problem that also preoccupied Twitter when it tried to implement its own, newly announced ban on political advertising. Facebook’s definition of a political ad includes a combination of classic political ads and any “social” ad. The list of social issues covered is broad (and varies by country). For the United States, it has 10 categories that encompass almost any interesting policy topic: Civil and Social Rights, Crime, Economy, Education, Environmental Policy, Guns, Health, Political Values and Security, or Foreign Policy.
