[Funding Opportunity] Promotion of English for media literacy in Kazakhstan
The Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the US Embassy Nur-Sultan is pleased to announce a call for proposals for the design and implementation of the project “Advancing English for Media Literacy in Kazakhstan”. This twelve month program provides media literacy and anti-disinformation training in English to audiences in Kazakhstan using the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) of English for Media Literacy and English for Media Literacy for Educators, developed by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). The provider must use the curricula previously developed by RELO that are available to the moderator. In addition to the training activities, the provider will also be responsible for implementing the curricula in schools and universities. The program activities will take place in cities and towns across Kazakhstan.
The goal of the MOOC for Media Literacy program is to equip Kazakh school and university teachers and their students with the necessary tools to access various types of mass media in the 21st century. Participants will learn to distinguish real from fake news and how to better consume traditional and social media.
The ECA Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) help intermediate, intermediate and advanced level learners improve their English skills in five key professional fields. Each MOOC is self-determined and lasts five weeks. The media literacy MOOCs will be the online basis for this project. To complete the program, participants will take the course in their spare time and meet with professional English teachers twice a week. The teachers support the participants in registering, completing and receiving a course certificate. It is expected that 100% of the participants will complete the course. The number of participants for each cohort depends on the total premium amount to the provider.
